Name and Trade Mark Registration
International Trademark Registration

International Trademark Registration
Procedure
The registration of a European Union trade mark is a standardised registration procedure carried out at the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO), located in Alicante.
A European Union trade mark is valid for ten years and may be renewed indefinitely for further periods of the same duration.
For a national trademark to be eligible for international registration, it must first have been GRANTED in Spain if the countries in question are signatories to the ARRANGEMENT.
For countries that are signatories to the PROTOCOL , the base trademark does not need to have already been registered; it may simply be pending registration.

On Fees and Trademark Disputes
Depending on which countries are ultimately designated, it will be necessary to pay a surcharge for each additional class requested. Only the countries covered by the Protocol are subject to the surcharge. You should also keep in mind that once you have applied for an international trademark for a certain number of countries, you can expand it to include other countries for a small additional fee.
If you would like to know the amounts of these surcharges, please contact our office.
We believe it is important to inform you that if any issues arise with the trademark in any of the countries where it is being applied for, those issues would apply only to that specific country, and the trademark application would proceed without any problems in the other countries.
We have all the relevant legislation regarding international trademarks available for you should you be interested, and we can also provide you with a fully customized quote.
